Hello all,

I have a WDH1NC10000 white light 1To and 1 External Hard drive WD caviar 2To and i want to swap the two Hard drive.
Do you know if it's possible to make this ?
I don't find the method.
I search on the web since 2 days and only this website speak seriously about this Western Digital NAS.

PS: Sorry for my bad english :/

System will not mount partitions, path not found, can't http// getting…. "Warning: is_dir(): Stat failed for /DataVolume/_torrent_ (errno=5 - Input/output error) in /proto/SxM_webui/ctcs/ctcsconfig.inc on line 24" All threads say to FTP and that works, but in my case it does not.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

An error running Tor

Hi
I'd like to use Tor.
I've install it via ipkg tor install
Configured it using http://astuces-webmaster.ch/page/tor-relay-synology
Launched it with /opt/bin/tor -f /opt/etc/tor/torrc —runasdaemon 1
After a launch, I got in the logs : "[err] Error from libevent: evmap.c:401: Assertion ctx failed in evmap_io_active" and a tor crash

Has anybody a idea on how to fix that ?
Thanks
D.

Replace HD with a WD RED 1T (WD10EFRX) and ata errors

Hello,
My WD HD died recently after 3 full years and I decided to replace the drive with a WD RED Series Drive 1TB (WD10EFRX).
This drive sounds promising (has some NAS specific features, notably bigger load/unload cycles and big MeanTimeBetweenFailures).
BUT
1) it is SATA 3, claiming SATA 2 combatible
2) it is advanced formated (4KB physical sectors vs the classic 512). For this subject there should be no problem as it has 512 Logical addressing.

In fact I followed the great tutorial for White light debricking (How to fix bricked WD My Book World Edition White Light or install brand new disk? | iknowsomething.com) and booted the 01.02.14 firmware.
I started using the drive and files seemed to be copied.
BUT I noticed repeated ata errors at dmesg and smartctl. See below.
My question is, could theese errors be related to an SATA interface mismatch ?

dmesg init:

Is there any way to create password protected folders on WD book live (WDBL)?
I have 4 different user account created on WDBL, having different privileges are working great until you have installed iMediaShare on your iPad or iPhone. Through this application or other applications like this, you can access all of the user profiles and all of the folders/files they’ve created. No privacy what so ever. This is bad!!!

MBWE with 250 GB

Hello,

I have a MBWE with 1 TB and I've change it with a hard drive of 250 GB. To put it I used the guide with title "how-to-fix-bricked-wd-my-book-world-edition-or-install-brand-new-disk"

I configured the file mbwe-config.sh and I ran the following command:

$ sudo bash ./mbwe-install.sh

I connected the hard drive and I go to the web management. A % is showed and it took many hours until finally finished booting. I checked all and I saw that the DataVolume had an error. I entered through ssh and tried to mount it at /DataVolume but it also gave errors. How I hadn't data, I formatted it and I could mount:

$ mkfs.xfs /dev/md2
$ mount /dev/md2 /DataVolume

But when I look at the partitions are mounted, I don't see md1:

$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/md0 1.8G 115.2M 1.6G 6% /
/dev/md3 949.6M 120.4M 780.9M 13% /var
/dev/md2 229.7G 8.8M 229.7G 0% /DataVolume
/dev/ram0 61.9M 16.0k 61.9M 0% /mnt/ram

Is this okay? Do I have to mount md1? Where?

PD: Sorry for my english

Regards

Does a iso exist to load inmy HD?

Drive Keeps Failing

I delete all partitions on two brand new green drives.
I setup a new drive A. Put it in, it works fine.
I put in drive B, format. Wait.
Change to Raid I.
Everything works fine.
SSL, the whole thing is great.

I turn it off, turn it back on. It's fine.
I turn off, turn it back on. Drive A failed.

I swap A with B. Drive B failed.
Format Drive B from within since it's detected as a new internal drive.
Files sync. Everything is fine again.

Turn it off, back on. It's fine.
Turn it off, back on. Drive A failed (which was the original drive B).
Swap it out. I can format it.

Any ideas what the hell is going on?
I've started fresh twice already.
And these are brand new drives that work fine when I mount them externally. My old drives also reported no errors when I did a complete 8hr disk scan. But I bought these just in case.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hi guys
i know you can install the OpenVPN server on a my book world (white light). But is there any way to connect the book to a VPN Provider like hidemyass.com via terminal? So all the download traffic goes through this tunnel.

Thanks :-)

Plex install for newbie... Without Debian

Hi guys,

Firstly, I like to thank you all for such great help on your tutorials, I have been playing with my old white light for 3 days now just for the fun of it.

Talking about fun, I have been playing around with media solutions and came across Plex which I found really cool on the Samsung TV, the only problem is that I am running it on PC and pointing to the files on the MyBook. I came across the Tut for installing Debian and Plex but made a disaster of it, so much that I had to rip the disk out and reload the partitions by hooking it directly to the PC (enough of a challenge for my skills). Anyway, I'm not too keen on the Twonky v5 and not sure how much of an improvement v6 or v7 will be so I want to take the road down Plex way if it is possible without having to install a new OS. I wouldn't mind so much to install Debian just as long as I can maintain the ability to keep the NAS working as a time machine for my mac at the same time.

Any clues on how to do this?

Largest HDD I can install?

Just found my never-used 2x500Gb Blue Rings MBWE in the Old Hardware Closet. It's been SSH hacked, but that was all I did to it at the time. It's FW version 02.00.18 currently.

Now that hard drive technology is so inexpensive, is it possible for me to install the basic operating system onto a pair of 3 or 4Tb disks? I suspect that there may be hardware issues, but I thought I'd ask first before I spent the cash on the disks and discovered it was not going to work out.

So, oh wise wizards of Embedded Linux, please let this NetBSD junkie know his best options for upgrading the disks in this fun little box.

Thanks in advance!

noob: can't find etc/default

I am trying to give my WD My Book world a second life as an rsync backup target. I am following the guides to install but I need to edit a file in /etc/default/rsync but I can't even find /etc/default, there is no default in /etc. I have enabled ssh, am logged in as root using filezilla and ssh protocol. Have just reinstalled it to default but can't see the folder. There is a /factorydefault folder but it doesn't have an rsync file as well.

Here is what I see (not allowed to post image link due to low post count)

—hotplug.d
—init.d
—mionet

iTunes doesn't recognize/load MyBookWorld

iTunes in my PC doesn't seem to recognize/load MyBookWorld. It keeps: "Loading 'MyBookWorld'" for hours, I even left overnight.

In Config > media > itunes, I have it configured like this:
- Service enabled: checked
- Music: Public/Shared Music (default - where i have tons of music)
- media server name: "MyBookWorld" (default)
- Check for new music every: 1 day (default)

For everything else my PC is accessing the WD MyBookWorld ok: file system, twonky, etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Stream MP4 From Accessbook

Greetings all. I recently installed Accessbook on my MBWE-WL. I can play AVI right from Accessbook via the green play arrow next to the video file, but no other format I use (mkv, mp4) has a play arrow. Anyone know what gives with that, or better yet, how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!!

Bust MBW enclosure, healthy HDD - how to access the files on OSX?

$

Hi,

I managed to short the circuits in the enclosure of my MBW 1TB drive, and need to get at the files contained on it. I've put it in a caddy and it seems healthy enough, only I don't have enough knowledge to do anything except look at the unmounted drives in Disk Utility. Ideally I'd like a way of accessing the drives via Terminal so that I can mount them in Finder and get at my files. Would the "unbricking" tutorial help me? or would I need to go reinstall in a new MBW enclosure to make this work.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

S.

1 MBWE white light 1Gb data recovery

Hi.

I have a MBWE white light with some issues. I can turn on the system, access the data and start copying to another system, but after some seconds, the connection is lost.

Can I remove the HDD and connect to a PC just for data recovery? I know the HDD is in good condition. I don't know why 3 of my MBWE have the same problem now (hangs or freeze) after few seconds. I have exactly the same issue with 3 systems. Already upgrade firmware and restore to factory defaults but the problem is still there.

But for now I just want to recover some data from one of them. HDD is good.

Thanks.
